This is where the hybrid car steps in. Hybrid cars use a rechargeable battery as well as gasoline. The system helps to reduce fuel emissions. The hybrid engine uses the battery and not gasoline when initially accelerating. Hybrid gasoline motors shut off when the car is stopped. When the car re-starts, it runs on electricity.
Hybrid cars are environment friendly. They emit lower toxic emissions compared to the traditional gasoline engines. They cause less pollution and release less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is one of the primary reasons for rising global warming. The Toyota Prius can reduce tailpipe emissions up to 90 percent and greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent.
Hybrids save gas. They combine the cleaner energy of an electric motor with the long-range capacity of a gasoline engine. The gasoline engine stops on its own when the car stops. This saves fuel as well.
Hybrids are noiseless when stationary. The gasoline engine is automatically turned on when you step on the accelerator. Thus noise pollution is also reduced.
To reduce greenhouse emissions, President Bush signed an agreement in 2005 to provide huge tax relief to the buyers of hybrid cars. It is based on 2 factors, which are as follows:
- The fuel efficiency of the hybrid car compared to a conventional car with the same weight class in 2002.
- How much gasoline the hybrid car can save in its lifetime compared to a conventional car.
A Honda Accord hybrid has reduced tax credits of $600 while a Toyota Prius has a tax credit of $3150.
