Ford Focus was initially launched in the U.S. in the year 2000. Ford Focus is a front-wheel drive car immensely popular because of its appealing style and affordable price. Another important feature about Ford Focus is that it is available in different body styles including sedan, wagon, three-door hatchback and a five-door hatchback body style. Till date, two generations of Ford Focus have rolled out.
The first generation Focus was a fun-to-drive car equipped with a 2.0L, 110hp, and 4-cylinder SOHC engine. However, another variation in this model was equipped with a 2.0L, 130hp DOHC engine called Zetec. The 2004 lineup of Ford included a more improved, efficient and environmental friendly 2.3L, 145hp Duratec engine. All the engines had a standard five-speed manual transmission and an optional four-speed automatic transmission.
There were subtle variations in the North American model when compared to the European model. These changes included larger front and rear bumpers, the grille fitted with indicator lights, front wings without any running lights and rear lights. The introductory models had fairly uninspiring interiors and safety features, which were later restyled in 2007. The new Ford Focus was now equipped with four wheel disc anti-lock braking systems, disc on the front and drum brakes on the rear, traction control, front-seat mounted side airbags and a spoiler. The interiors were ergonomically designed that included features such as leather upholstery. Lighted cup holders, integrated fog lamps, heated seats, heated mirrors, brushed aluminium dashboards and a new Microsoft Sync for integrating electronic devices.
