In the beginning the company produced only a small number of cars in its factory in Detroit. There was a small group of three men working on assembling the products of the car together. Henry Ford was forty years old when he started the company. Apparently he was not aware that the company would end up becoming one of the most successful companies in the world. Also, it was one of the few companies in the US that survived the Great Depression. Even today Ford is the second most famous company in the world.
Ford soon introduced large scale manufacturing and by 1923 they were mass producing cars. They made economy cars which fit into everyone’s budget. By 1914 Henry Ford cars were known as Fordism. For 56 years after they held the second place for selling the largest number of vehicles. The first position was held by General Motors and then Toyota.
Ford was known to be one of the best payers in the automobile industry, and in the 1920s several people moved to Detroit to look for jobs. Ford gave high dividends to his company's workers and also had a profit sharing policy in their company.
